After Your ESG Procedure
Your recovery after the Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG)Ā is an important part of your weight-loss journey. Our team will provide detailed instructions about diet, medications, activity, hydration, and follow-up appointments.
Ā
Please follow your personalized discharge instructions carefully. Some recommendations may vary depending on your medical history, medications, procedure findings, and the guidance of your physician.
Ā
What to Expect After the Procedure:
After the ESG, it is common to experience temporary symptoms as your stomach adjusts. These may include:
-
Nausea
-
Abdominal discomfort or cramping
-
Bloating
-
Fatigue
-
Decreased appetite
-
Mild throat irritation from the endoscope
Ā
These symptoms usually improve with time and with the medications prescribed by your care team.
ā
Diet After EndoSleeve:
Your diet will advance gradually after the procedure. This allows your stomach to heal and helps reduce the risk of nausea, vomiting, dehydration, or discomfort.
Do not advance your diet faster than instructed. Eating too much or too quickly after the procedure may cause pain, nausea, vomiting, or poor tolerance.

ā
Hydration Is Very Important:
Staying hydrated is one of the most important goals after your procedure.
Sip fluids slowly throughout the day. Avoid drinking large amounts quickly. Contact the office if you are unable to keep fluids down or are concerned about dehydration.
ā
Medications After the Procedure:
You may be prescribed medications to help with nausea, discomfort, acid reduction, or other symptoms.
Take medications exactly as directed. Do not restart blood thinners, diabetes medications, GLP-1 medications, anti-inflammatory medications, or supplements unless your physician has instructed you to do so.
ā
Activity and Recovery
Most patients gradually increase activity after the procedure. Walking is encouraged as tolerated.
Avoid strenuous activity, heavy lifting, or intense exercise until cleared by your physician. Listen to your body and increase activity slowly.
ā
