In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Gandsas is deeply involved in surgical education and innovation. He serves as Program Director for the General Surgery Residency Program and the Bariatric Fellowship Program at Anne Arundel Medical Center, where he helps train the next generation of surgeons. He has published extensively in the fields of bariatric surgery, minimally invasive surgery, telemedicine, robotic telepresence, and surgical education.

Dr. Gandsas has received multiple awards and honors throughout his career, including recognition as a ā€œTop Doctorā€ in bariatric surgery. He also received Smithsonian ComputerWorld Awards from the Smithsonian Institution for his early work in surgical technology, including LAPAROSCOPY.COM and internet-based in-flight telemetry. His long-standing interest in innovation continues to shape his approach to patient care, education, and minimally invasive surgery.

Fluent in English and Spanish, and conversational in German, Dr. Gandsas is committed to clear communication and helping patients feel informed, comfortable, and supported throughout their weight-loss journey.

Through the EndoSleeve program, Dr. Gandsas offers eligible patients an incisionless, endoscopic option for weight loss as part of a comprehensive, medically supervised approach to obesity care.

Dr. Alex Gandsas is a board-certified surgeon specializing in bariatric, metabolic, and minimally invasive surgery. He serves as Director of the Weight Loss and Metabolic Surgery Program at Anne Arundel Medical Center and is Professor of Surgery at George Washington University.

With more than two decades of experience in advanced laparoscopic, bariatric, and revisional weight-loss surgery, Dr. Gandsas has dedicated his career to helping patients achieve healthier lives through safe, effective, and individualized treatment options. His clinical interests include metabolic and bariatric surgery, minimally invasive surgery, revisional bariatric procedures, and endoscopic weight-loss therapies such as EndoSleeve.

Dr. Gandsas completed his medical degree at the University of Buenos Aires School of Medicine. He went on to complete surgical training in the United States, including an Advanced Laparoscopy Fellowship at Duke University Medical Center and a Bariatric Surgery Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He also earned an MBA in Medical Services Management from the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School.
